TERAPET at ASTRO 2026: Advancing Integrated Verification and Strengthening International Partnerships

ASTRO 2026 in Boston brought together two important aspects of TERAPET’s development: our collaboration towards integrated verification in upright particle therapy and the expansion of our international commercial network.

Hosted at Leo Cancer Care’s Booth #519, our team connected with clinicians, medical physicists, researchers and industry partners from across the radiation oncology community. The congress provided an opportunity to present our approach to PET-based treatment verification, exchange perspectives on clinical implementation and strengthen the partnerships supporting our next steps.

From Plan to Proof in Upright Particle Therapy

One of the main highlights was our joint presentation with Leo Cancer Care and RaySearch Laboratories:

“From Plan to Proof in Upright Particle Therapy: Integrating Treatment Planning, Upright Delivery and In-Vivo PET Verification”

Delivered by Christina Vallgren, Erik Traneus and Stephen Towe, the presentation explored our shared vision for connecting treatment planning, upright treatment delivery and PET-based in-vivo verification within an integrated workflow.

At the centre of this collaboration is QUALYSCAN® Upright, TERAPET’s system under development for PET-based verification directly in the upright treatment position. The proposed workflow combines PET activity predictions from RayStation with measurements acquired by QUALYSCAN®, linking treatment planning with verification following irradiation.

By comparing expected and measured PET activity distributions, this approach aims to provide additional information about treatment delivery and support the development of future adaptive workflows.

The presentation built on the collaboration introduced at ESTRO earlier this year, bringing the discussion to the wider international radiation oncology community at ASTRO.

An Important Milestone with Paragon Care Korea

ASTRO also marked an important commercial milestone for TERAPET: the signing of an exclusive distribution agreement with Paragon Care Korea for South Korea.

After months of discussions and preparation, making the partnership official in Boston represented a concrete step towards strengthening TERAPET’s presence in the Korean particle therapy market.

The agreement brings together TERAPET’s expertise in PET-based verification and Paragon Care Korea’s local market knowledge and relationships, providing a foundation for engaging with treatment centres and developing opportunities in South Korea.

We would like to thank the Paragon Care Korea team for their commitment and the work that brought this partnership to fruition.

Connecting Across the Particle Therapy Community

Alongside the exhibition and our joint presentation, ASTRO offered valuable opportunities to connect with partners and clinical representatives in settings beyond the congress floor.

Our team joined Paragon Care Korea and a Korean delegation for a visit to Mevion Medical Systems, creating further opportunities for exchange around particle therapy technologies and their implementation.

Throughout the congress, conversations with existing collaborators and new contacts also helped us explore how PET-based verification could fit into different treatment environments, including both upright and conventional configurations.

These exchanges are an essential part of our development process, helping connect technological innovation with the practical needs of treatment centres.

Building on the Momentum from Boston

We leave ASTRO with a new distribution partnership, stronger connections across the particle therapy ecosystem and further opportunities to advance our work in PET-based treatment verification.

A special thank you goes to Leo Cancer Care for welcoming us at their booth and making TERAPET part of their ASTRO presence. Their team’s hospitality, energy and collaboration made this a particularly valuable week.

We also thank RaySearch Laboratories, Paragon Care Korea, Mevion Medical Systems and everyone who took the time to meet with us in Boston.

The work now continues through follow-up discussions, joint development activities and the next steps in bringing integrated verification closer to clinical practice.
